Simple recipes are all the rage at my house lately and this tasty, satisfying Watermelon Blueberry Protein Smoothie is one of my warm weather favorites. The sweet flavors of watermelon and blueberry make a perfect pair in this little shake and it’s a delicious and nutritious combo.

While including a measure of a large fruit, such as watermelon, into a small smoothie recipe may initially seem like a punishing chore, using a compact, personal-size watermelon for this recipe makes this delicious summer fruit much more manageable to enjoy.

With a little bit of preparation, this flavorful smoothie is very quick and easy to make.

How to make a watermelon blueberry protein smoothie

I most often combine fresh watermelon, frozen blueberries, plain Greek yogurt, honey, and almond milk to make this fantastic, vibrant smoothie. I have also hopped on the bandwagon with mixing nutritious seeds in to recipes where it makes sense to do so. Chia seeds and ground flaxseed are perfect additions to any smoothie and they add in good nutritional benefits including vitamin B, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, minerals, as well as calcium. 1

A full size watermelon yields a bit too much fruit for my small family to eat in a timely manner, so the petite ones are just perfect for us, in general. The petite watermelons are just as delicious as their ginormous relatives and a wonderful option for small families to get their watermelon fix!

To prepare a small watermelon for smoothies or for general snacking, I will slice the watermelon into four wedges and use a melon baller to harvest the amount of watermelon I want or need at anytime. In my opinion, this is a more comfortable process than getting out a knife and cutting board to repetitively diced up a small amount. The I just wrap any leftover watermelon up, and store it in the fridge for a later use.

For convenience, I also typically purchase small bags of frozen berries at Walmart as they have a have them ready to go and a great price.

I began whipping up this delightfully purple smoothie late last summer, and I was so excited to see the personal watermelons appear back in the produce department recently, and I immediately started making them again. I’ve enjoyed one almost daily for the last two weeks with many more watermelon blueberry smoothies to come!

If you make a lot of smoothies for yourself, like I do, I can’t say enough about this personal-size Magic Bullet Blender. I literally use mine almost daily and it’s become a kitchen essential for me. You can check the very set I use here to see if you may like it https://amzn.to/4juFi7c.

I hope you all love this luscious summer smoothie as much as I do.

Happy blending, everyone! 🍉🫐✨
