We are a family of autumn-loving people, so the arrival of the month of September is a super big deal for more reasons than one. In my house, September 1 is always met with a small swell of anticipation for all the upcoming, marvelous cool weather changes (seriously, we can’t wait for cooler weather!!) and fun fall festivities and activities that will be happening throughout the next several weeks.
September also marks the official onset of the fantastical –ber months, and as we see it, the countdown for the upcoming holiday season has now begun!
My boxes of autumn decorations are out of storage, stacked in the hallway and lying in wait for the change of seasons in the living room to begin. Honestly, we are typically so excited about the date of September 1 that it’s easy to forget that it’s. still. summer.

That is, of course, until we step outside of the house. The tyrannical Texas heat index swiftly issues a stark 100Β°+ reminder about which season is still present. Y’all may think I’m being melodramatic, but just two nights ago it was still 102Β° at 6:30 p.m. That’s just plain obscene!
Sweltering evenings like that one and extreme summer weather patterns are the reasons it’s easy to say goodbye to August in Texas. Last year we were in a rather scary drought that had everyone talking about water sustainability in our area, and this year we’re experiencing flash flood warnings every other week! So, even as I sit among my sparkly decorative pumpkins and faux multicolored foliage indoors, that relentless, brutal heat is certainly the most plain reminder that summer is still here every time I open the door.
Creamy, steamy pumpkin spice lattes are also becoming more readily available in every local coffee shop, and no doubt I’m quite happy about this! However, chilled beverages will be the first choice refreshments in the afternoons and evenings around here for a little while longer; we still have a few more suffocating weeks of summer heat to go.
The arrival of September also means that our local grocery stores will soon have large displays featuring some of the most delicious pressed apple ciders imported from all over the country. The fancy apple ciders are always a treat worth waiting for, and I won’t hesitate to stockpile a few bottles on first sight!
Fresh cider is delicious on its own, but I will instantly make a big glass full of this easy, scrumptious, icy cold Apple Cider Arnold Palmer. In fact, I will be making this mocktail-style drink on repeat until the first cold front arrives!

Of course, this is a twist on the classic, refreshing Arnold Palmer drink that is simply made with equal parts lemonade and sweetened iced tea over ice.
My easy Apple Cider Arnold Palmer is made with equal parts seasonal pressed apple cider and unsweetened iced tea. I prefer to sweeten this mixture up with a splash or two of a quality cinnamon or maple-flavored syrup to add even more pizazz into this delicious drink.
It’s one of my favorite spiced, autumn-inspired refreshments to enjoy on a ridiculously hot end-of-summer day.
This week is Fall Flavors Week! I’m sharing delicious autumn-inspired recipes with several of my blogging friends! Please check out their fantastic recipes as well!
