A white ramekin filled with five small piles of warm spices sits on a wooden cutting board. A burnt orange colored cotton tea towel with fringed ends rests just beside the bowl. A set of measuring spoons lies on the towel. On the opposite side of the cutting board, a slice of pumpkin pie is ready to serve on a small white dessert plate.

This aromatic and sweet mix of warm spices contains no pumpkin, despite its well-known name, Pumpkin Pie Spice.

The cozy mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice is most famous for flavoring traditional pumpkin pie; however, its delicious, versatile nature has caused it to be a must-have addition to a wide array of autumn-themed dishes, both sweet and savory, and beverages too.

With this simple, money-saving homemade warm spice blend, it’s possible to make enough pumpkin pie spice mix to get all the way through pumpkin-spice-everything-season with one less item on the grocery list.

I honestly have a spice jar filled with this mix in my pantry at all times, but I freshen up my spice bottle when autumn arrives.

You best believe that that little pumpkin pie spice jar is about to be in constant use!

This recipe begins with a large measure of sweet and spicy cinnamon that is complemented and balanced by a medley of other pantry-staple warm spices. This recipe consists of my favorite ratio of essential ingredients to make simple pumpkin pie spice.

As with any other recipe, you can use my recipe as a base and change up the amounts provided to suit your own preferences, but this is the exact mix I’ve been using for many years.
