I don’t know about you guys, but when I get a craving for chocolate I mostly think about getting my hands on some rich, luxurious chocolate candy to satisfy it. Store-bought candy bars are wonderful for a quick chocolate fix, but I truly enjoy making my own fancy-looking, chocolate truffles as often as I can.

Making homemade chocolate truffles is incredibly easy to do, however you can keep that as your little secret. Anyone who tries one of these little chocolate babies will believe you slaved away for hours in the process. I love treating my guests to goodies like these chocolate orange truffles that are crazy easy to put together, but make them feel doted upon.

These decadent little bites will liven up the look of your party table too. Seriously, once these little confections are nestled inside their petite paper cups, they look so elegant.

When I make these little candies, semi-sweet chocolate with orange is my favorite flavor combination, but really the possibilities are endless when it comes to adding flavorful backnotes into this recipe. You can simply add a little bit of quality extract or freshly zested fruit rind into the melted chocolate to change up these homemade truffles to suit yourself.

I always make a few batches of these chocolate orange truffles during the holidays and honestly, I had this post on my schedule to share closer to Thanksgiving. However, I realized this was a terrific post to share during this amazing week of #Choctoberfest

I don’t think any celebration of all-things-chocolate would be complete without some dainty chocolate truffles!

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons orange-flavored extract

  • 1/3 cup finely crushed nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds), for coating

Directions

  • Prepare a small loaf pan with non-stick spray and set it aside. In a medium-size sauce pan, combine the chocolate chips and butter over medium heat. Once the chocolate begins to melt begin adding the half and half a little at a time. Once chocolate chips are completely melted and chocolate mixture is smooth, remove the pan from the heat. .
  • Stir in the orange extract. Evenly pour chocolate mixture into prepared loaf pan and allow it to cool on a rack for 20 minutes. Refrigerate  cooled chocolate for one hour or until chocolate mixture is firm and set. Use a melon-baller to make smalls ball of the chocolate mixture. Use your hands to roll firm chocolate into smooth, little balls.
  • Roll chocolate truffles in crushed nuts or powdered sugar and place them in individual paper mini-muffin cups. Place the truffles in a covered dish and chill until ready to serve.
